The Spore Supersite
Soon to come : Spore Profiles
1 Million!

EA announced not long ago that they sold 1 million copy of Spore.
This is an outstandingly good number, especially for a game that isn't sold on consoles.
Also, while certain hardcore games reach this number sooner, they almost totally stop being sold after a few months, unlike Spore, that's lifespan is planned to be very long, due to the casual target audience, that will hear about it and buy it only after they hear about it from other people, like with The Sims.
As Frank Gibeau, EA Games President said:
"Spore is a hit! Will Wright's latest delivers an incredibly diverse game that appeals to casual gamers and the core alike. We're off to a great start moving into the holiday season and believe Spore will deliver a platform of creativity for gamers of all stripes for years to come."
The earlier rumors about Spore being "the most pirated game ever" seem to be utterly false, since only 500 000 pirated versions were reported, and that 2:1 is a surprisingly healthy original/pirated ratio, maybe one of the best in the PC gaming industry. (As a comparison, Crysis had 1:20 ratio, that means it was 20 times more pirated than bought)
The SecuROM boycotts, downratings, trollings, and lawsuits also seem to have no or critically low effect on the sales.

Yeah, Match, I agree. While I may dabble with Sim City again someday, I'm done worshiping WIll Wright. THIS is more fun than Spore.

Oh by the way, MatchNL, wouldn't YOUR money be YOUR problem? It's not like Maxis had you tied up to a pole those three years? The only one you can blame is yourself, and if you couldn't see from the beginning you were not gonna like it, then that's a shame, but stop picking on everything else cause of that. Okay?
3. MatchNL - Oct 10, 2008 09:40 PM
Oh, by the way. GAMES LIKE THESE ARE THE REASON PEOPLE PIRATE SOFTWARE. People pirate games so they don't accidentally pay 50 dollars for SH*T games.... like this one. I learned my lesson. I'm never paying for another video game again.

I hope EA gets sued for 50 million for the DRM crap. Spore wasn't even fun. I waited over 3 years for this worthless game. I've played better games on NEWGROUNDS than this.

sorry, but this is necessary, right here, right now......here it is: ZZZZ (sound of crickets) ((and this is not a response to people talking about the DRM or lack of re-playability...I agree))
Where are the updates? The Mac patch is available, for instance. Blog about it. The first (and only) update about the prototypes happened when one came out that was deemed sorta ok, and long after the first ones came out. There have been new ones since then, even since Spore was released. This is the only Spore fan site that I visit regularly, but, seriously....crickets. Can you hear the silence here?

Wow! This is great! Now that means 1 million more people can file lawsuits and cry on teh interwebz about the faulty patch! Yay. >_>

Spoilers to help lucky: In the Hitchikers guide to the galaxy the meaning of life is 42, at the center of the universe you get the staff of life and 42 of them... so hence you get the badge named 42. What annoys me is i did both and didnt get the two badges.
16. lucky711 - Sep 28, 2008 03:36 PM
OH, thank you Mystify, i already got to the center of the galaxy and i already found Earth but what do Manifest Destiny do, and 42 achivements you meant right?

21. lucky711 - Sep 26, 2008 05:07 PM
yea vetrijar, i get what your saying! I think The Sims 3 will beat The Sims 2! I think we will have another amazing game that surpasses the records!! But i still don;t know that this DRM is lol
22. vetrijar - Sep 26, 2008 11:25 AM
anyways, to stay on subject with this forum, what I also meant to say is that I wonder if sims3 will sell 1 million in the first week or two and if it's going to go through this DRM thing too (or will someone learn to please the customers better)
23. vetrijar - Sep 26, 2008 11:23 AM
yep, and sims3 is coming in a few months.. though seems like the only difference is, seamless 3d wandering (like gta, but still a big plus), and more realistic settings to make a real you, including obese. -- be neat if it had a beach area, airport where you fly to oversea sim locations(but you actually can wander in the airport or plane), wander|break into anyone's home(though this might be in sims3), be a homeless (which probably could work though you'd still have empty house bill)
24. Alterego - Sep 26, 2008 05:41 AM
austin, The Sims *2* was only a sequel to the more popular original game, and it had millions of fans at the time. But The Sims 1 took months to reach 1 million users.
25. swc19 - Sep 26, 2008 03:32 AM
Well people would already have heard of the Sims 2 from the success of the Sims.
