Set your Expectations to Low
With the release of the most anticipated game around the corner, Will Wright has stated in a recent interview with GameInformer that he has a concern of there being a potential of "too much hype". He mentions they realized it about a year ago and they've decided they should start saying "that it's going to suck just to de-hype it."

GI: How do you deal with the almost impossibly high expectations that people have for Spore? Do you feel that pressure?
Wright: I think it’s too much hype. About a year ago, we were realizing how much hype we were getting and we decided we should start to say that it’s going to suck just to de-hype it. That is a certain amount of pressure. When people don’t know much about something, they tend to fill in the blanks the way you want them to be filled in. That’s true of almost anything. Then, when the actual thing comes out some people will be disappointed that it’s not “hardcore enough” or it’s not “easy enough” or that we didn’t do this or that. We’ve gotten to that point any additional hype isn’t serving us well. It’s a concern.

So if you're able to alter your expectations of Spore to "It's going to suck", you CAN'T be disappointed! And trust me, I know, I've played it for 3 1/2 hours. :)

Well it rly was too much hype....the game ain't that great tbh :/ the last 2 phases...are...meh :/ you can't do anything without the "money" and it ain't easy to get it lol and no blood? throwing around some creature and no splash...nothing just *puff* :/ oh well going back to space..

I'm coming into playing Spore from a long phase of playing Civilization, I got into it mainly out a sense of curiousity, but am eager to give it a try, time for a change I suppose. I don't think I'll be disappointed, I didn't get into the hype too much.

I figured about a year ago that things were going to go like this. And I have a feeling now that on the 7th when i finally get a hold of the damn thing. That the game will be very good. But unless Spore somehow manages to pleasure my orally, or at the very least give me some kinda virtual hand job. It will not be as good as all the hype nor as good as it's been built up in my mind. Yet still the most awesome game ever!

the guy who makes this site is a douche! he hypes the game for ages then he gets a chance to c it and gives us a massive page no one could b arsed readin about what he drank! and now after all his hype and when we r five days away from the game and it has been preordered and everything he tells us it will b shit!!! what an asshole!

and also, I think you should change the title from "Set Your Expectations to Low" to "Easy on The Hype" Wright is not saying we should lower our expectations a lot, he's just saying we should not expect TOO much from the game! Remember, Will Wright is a human, not god, he cant do everything in Spore! So I think the Low Expectations title kinda buzz-kills because we can still have pretty high expectations, just dont get outta hand

Ok, I have my hype pretty high, but even if Spore isnt completely amazing, I will still love it! It will be fun and the game will satisfy me while I wait for others! And even if Spore doesn't deliver, this proves that a game THIS BIG can be accomplished, which could cause inspiration for even bigger and better games like Spore!! SO WHO CARES!!! :D Anywhoo, I am still going to get it.

Bluk, the only way you can skip levels is if you use cheats - Otherwise, you can't skip levels.

well all I have to say is that thats what you get Will for making me wait 4 years for this damn thing. I'm already disappointed about one thing that they revealed through the news. The fact you can skip the levels :l If you wanna be good at making the game so people can experience it they should have made it so that you play through the game once and when you start a new one you can skip levels. But w.e

I think the hype is good! And i cannot believe some poeple are compareing this to other games!! This is the game that everybody knows about! My mom knows about spore bc the newspaper, and shes 50! Spore is no ordinary game guys, you have to realize that! This is a game that has so much new things in it that no other gamehas had to date!!! Spore is a revolutionary game and will be writen in history as a new generation of games!! Just as the sims did!!

yea theres deffinitely alot of hype about spore, but ive never been one to follow it. i got fable even after all the ppl said it was really bad and i still thought it was a very good game. i think people really just need to play the game for what it is and discover the game for themselves. to sk958: i think the idea of having to earn pieces is a good one, it kinda adds alot to the gameplay seeing as you need to earn stuff
