Community Day in Madrid

Written on: March 2, 2008 by Alterego

EA organized a Spore Community Day in Madrid, on the 29th of February.
Some of the Spanish Spore fans from  spore.es were invited, and they could get answers for some important questions. Here is a list:

-Alien UFOs can visit you even in the tribal phase
-The system requirements of the game are not known, because the developers are still optimizing it, but they hope that it will be playable even on laptops (and normally these don't have a powerful system!)
-You can collect medals in the space phase with completing missions.
-The price of Spore will between 50 and 60€
-The NPC controlled other races will have their own personality, agressive, or diplomatic.
-The universe will evolve on its own (!), this is why there can be UFOs in the tribal phase.
-You an change the style of the music in the civ. phase.

There is also an article on MTV Multiplayer , about the procedural music in Spore, with a listenable example!

And CVG had an interview with the Spore developer Soren Johnson, with only a little mentioning of Spore, but it is recommended for everyone who is interested in his works, and his thoughts about games.

http://www.bit-tech.net/bits/2008/02/14/spore_producer_interview_thomas_vu/1 For those that were asking about the planet you start on read this sites two interviews about spore. Actually one interview and one preview. Its said you name your planet to begin with, which means you might get to alter a few seetings with it then. But In the interview Thomas Vu says Its the same planet all the time for everyone or something like that. But he says it like it only applies to the shift between phases, if not it'd be pretty disappointing. But that suggests that the starting planet is always the same for everyone. If you look back at the pictures from the civ stage all the continents do look the same each time, but that doesn't mean much since the test system might have just had the same parameters each time.

@ Master & Englishman: I agree it would be great to have, just to play with, but I'm not getting my hopes up since they haven't teased us with a screenshot of one.

Master of evolution - Mar 11, 2008 12:48 PM

Mulligan11: I agree with you, but a planet editor would be awsome. Costumize a palnet just with a space ship its kind of a lame thing...

englishmanjacob - Mar 10, 2008 11:53 AM

You may be able to edit your planet at the very begging, I remember hearing something about it way back when

Mulligan11 - Mar 07, 2008 03:15 PM

@Masterofevolution: Considering there has never been a screenshot of a "planet editor," I'm not going to assume that there is one. So far, they've only shown planets being altered with the UFO, so I'm going to believe that's the only way you can do it until I see a screenshot that shows otherwise.

Mulligan11 - Mar 07, 2008 03:10 PM

@Rubgish: I see where you're coming from and agree. Silica-based organisms would survive on an entirely different set of compunds. I'm just referring to what WW said in his presentation to NASA. Terraforming is playing the goldilocks game. Strangely enough, though, he never mentions water...

Alterego - Mar 06, 2008 12:21 PM

Spore demonstration in Singapore

englishmanjacob - Mar 06, 2008 12:11 PM

@alterego: what happens on march 15?

Alterego - Mar 06, 2008 11:32 AM

Wait until March 15th

englishmanjacob - Mar 05, 2008 08:37 PM

I agree with Catox to, anyway, we need news!!! I don't sneak on here during computer class to look at the old news.

Master of evolution - Mar 05, 2008 06:31 PM

I agree with Catox. In the begining they have said that we would be able even to costumize our planet, I I don't think that we just can costumisze planets with a spaceship! The first editor in the game will be to make a planet! OH! That would be great!

Catox - Mar 05, 2008 06:10 PM

I would say the reason why we didn't see not-green planets with not-blue skies recently is because they didn't show it... Just and simply. The color of the sky isn't a condition to life... and so isn't probably the color of living things. I would be very surprised if you had to "colorize" every planet before being able to colonize those... they just didn't show it to us yet : it leaves more news to see in future news or at the launch of the game...

Rubgish - Mar 05, 2008 01:54 PM

@Mulligan11 - You only can't survive at those temperatures because we are carbon based life-form, if you move to a substance like silicon then at -200 degrees it would actually be pretty stable to use silicon like we use carbon. Our temperatures would be way too hot and the silicon wouldn't be stable. Anyhow, its just a game, i don't want to be stuck on very similar to earth planets, and I'm guessing you will be able to explore different types of planets, at least up to a point. They will all need atmospheres, and maybe a water supply of sorts, but that still leaves a wide range available .

englishmanjacob - Mar 05, 2008 11:58 AM

@turd: well all of our planet will have to have some sort of water, or at least liquid, or it would look strange to when we come out of the cell stage.

Turdpolisher - Mar 05, 2008 11:48 AM

it would be pritty rubbish if u dont start on an earth like planet. i dont wanner be living on a desert like planet all through the game.

DISGUSTIPATED - Mar 04, 2008 05:20 PM

Fubio, you make a good point. All Im doing is speculating as to why they are giving us Earthlike planets to start with. I could be wrong. And after all we dont even know for sure that we start on an Earthlike planet anyways. (though we probably do)

englishmanjacob - Mar 04, 2008 12:40 PM

@fubio: Not nessicaraly we've seen the adaptiveness of life on our planet, and even though its after the actual creation of species, whos to say it wouldent work before its created

InLoveWithSpore - Mar 03, 2008 06:35 PM

Yes i know sorry. I noticed I made a mistake afterwards but couldn't find a way to edit a post after its sent.

Spderweb - Mar 03, 2008 06:33 PM

see what i'd like to see is the whole super nova thing. I think Will mentioned a long time ago that there'd be super novas. so what if your a single cell and then your sun goes nova. that'd be pretty interesting. Probably a cheat code will be implemented. If anything, it would be a very humbling thing to happen, if the solar system just ended without any thought that it could happen.

Dred13 - Mar 03, 2008 02:46 PM

i hope a ufo doesnt come and mutate/destroy my planet O.O

Mulligan11 - Mar 03, 2008 08:49 AM

@InLovewithSpore: Mars isn't hot, it's cold. Mercury is hot, Venus is hot, but Mars is cold. The average temperatre is -46 C. That's 50 degrees less than Earth. Watch the NASA video. Planets have to be in a certain range to support life. WW says it and shows how it works very distinctly. If you look at the screenshots, there's two factors: atmosphere and temperature. WW says you have to get it in the center of the crosshairs for it to support life. Color, on the other hand, may be variable. I'd like to see the screenshot on 4players.de where the tribe is on an oddly colored planed.

Mulligan11 - Mar 03, 2008 08:37 AM

@plasmavore: You're not missing much. the sound quality is horrendous, and it's about the music editor which makes it a pointless video.

plasmavore - Mar 03, 2008 01:45 AM

Argggggghhhh. I can't play the vid!

FuBi0 - Mar 03, 2008 01:42 AM

DISGUSTIPATED: Possibly yes. I completely agree that most planets that are incapable of supporting life (ie. too hot, too cold) more than likely will not have life on them. However, I doubt that all habitable home planets have to follow the blue oceans/green grass scenario in Spore because of several planets in demos as well as screenies from the tribal phase on the 4players.de site show that other habitable planets exist with less than realisticly habitable conditions. Think of the oddball candy colored world that already had life in one of those original demos. If those creatures can live there, why should we be blocked from starting somewhere similar? I've noticed that these seem to have crazy color templates and landscapes and though they stick with the oceans and vegitation formula for life, they don't always have the earthlike look to them. Since the game is based so much on creativity, I think we will some major variations on starting planets though we probably won't be living on mars or pluto like you said. I still hope for some extremes to be habitable, such as custom planets.

Mopartex - Mar 03, 2008 12:04 AM

One question that has been bouncing around my head that I haven't found info on is.... What happens to your original creature/tibe etc if you decide to start over? Will we be able to flag ourselves (so to speak) to populate our new galaxy with past creations? And just to throw a Einstein curve in there, if this is possible will our first galaxy/planet be able to download data from the second game? If this is included we will essentially be downloading from the future, right?Hmmm accidental time travel anyone?

DISGUSTIPATED - Mar 02, 2008 10:58 PM

Inlovewithspore: I think that the answer to your question is that everybody starts off on an Earth-like planet. The reason for this is because it is thought that life can only arise on planets with the right conditions. Planets that are too hot (mars) or too cold (pluto) won't support life in the first place. However, as soon as you get to explore the planets, you can (because of the technology that you've produced) live on a planet with less than Earth-like conditions. I guess that WW and the team just wanted to stick to real-life science like the Goldilock's theory and so forth.

Dippeggs - Mar 02, 2008 09:02 PM

I'm pretty sure It will be $50 like every other new PC game.

ToddMite - Mar 02, 2008 08:50 PM

dude, spore will cost like R$180 when it launches. and man, that's very costy.

Crogater - Mar 02, 2008 08:46 PM

yay new info great it will have low system reqs. and missions, hmm so it generates missions for you, it just keeps getting better!

hyperchaud - Mar 02, 2008 08:34 PM

Ah! does this mean your little tribe can be wiped out by aliens?!

englishmanjacob - Mar 02, 2008 08:31 PM

@inlovewithspore I agree with you although i am looking more to the civilization and space age there would be a excitement drop if spore diden't include this feature

englishmanjacob - Mar 02, 2008 08:23 PM

This is so cool!! I hope they do a community day here in the south!!

InLoveWithSpore - Mar 02, 2008 06:47 PM

the major question i still want answered, which has me worried is. From the videos I've seen every home planet is always green grass, blue ocean, only change is standards is trees. Is it imposible to start on a purple planet with green water, like the one in the 1up vid, or even an icy planet on the edge of the solar system or a flamming hot "Mars". In other words do you always start on am "Earth-like" planet? cause that would be pretty disapointing.

Mr. Turtle - Mar 02, 2008 02:31 PM

Can you be shot back to the stone age by another UFO? and can the UFO's go underwater and become USOs and kill you even when you don't have a city?!

Master of evolution - Mar 02, 2008 12:56 PM

In Europe this price is very ok. Sims 2 here is just 60 E, I thought that Spore will cust much more money! dont forget that this price doesn't include taxes.

Teh Guest - Mar 02, 2008 12:13 PM

Then preorder and get if for 49.99

Bluk0 - Mar 02, 2008 11:27 AM

yay I was wondering the same thing about the UFOs visiting u for a while. Thank god they answered it=) and they shudda gave the system requirements so that ppl can find a new computer or update things while they wait:) all I know is is that I wont be able to play it:( waited about 4 years and my comp sucks:'(

blp2021 - Mar 02, 2008 11:03 AM

Then preorder and get if for 49.99

Hahk32 - Mar 02, 2008 10:40 AM

cool, we finally got to ask some questions

SPORE fin - Mar 02, 2008 10:16 AM

It is 50€-60€ waiting 4 spore. but wait! in dollars that is $75-$90. yes you were right. sry for this useless comment. (1€ is now a little more than $1,5)

Spore1202 - Mar 02, 2008 10:13 AM

I thougth the player whos the only one whos could build a UFO ,, but this will by more challenging like dada222 said :D,, that will by more fun :D

Waiting_4_Spore - Mar 02, 2008 09:36 AM

Gah, sorry for double (Now triple) comment. Also, $80 for spore? Seems a little much... Oh well.

Waiting_4_Spore - Mar 02, 2008 08:57 AM

Yeah, universe evolving on it's own is cool. Also, I ran the whole thing through systran, and it seems that there will be a space tutorial, as well as "Unfortunately we cannot offer photos nor videos of the game, since EA keeps with fervor each detail so that it does not filter what they want that is a surprise." Which pretty much means that there is still MORE that they haven't announced. Schweet.

hoogamaphone - Mar 02, 2008 08:40 AM

The sound clip is the same sound from the "space editor demo" that's already posted on this site, except theirs only has sound.

Caitiven - Mar 02, 2008 05:04 AM

"The universe will evolve on its own (!), this is why there can be UFOs in the tribal phase" This is very exciting. What lacked in Sims 2 was that your family was the only one that would be growing. It seems that all species will be constantly changing in Spore and therefore will make the game seem more alive. Sweet.

dada222 - Mar 02, 2008 04:00 AM

good think that UFOs can visit you whenever. I makes it more realistic and challenging

xTerras - Mar 02, 2008 03:52 AM
