Happy New Year!

Written on: January 1, 2008 by xDreamache

In order to avoid being redundant - this year we're not going to anticipate the release of Spore.  Exactly 1 year ago we posted this article in which we stated "May this be the year" that we get our hands on Spore and obviously that was a bigger let down than the skin of Michael Jackson.  So instead, we're just going to wish everyone a happy new year and perhaps it will bring us better karma this time around - Spore?  what is that?

MatchNL i'm a little late to say this, but Spore will be so big that it probably will only have exspansion packs

There you go, a little more confirmation of my knowledge. I guess I am smart.

Correction, Spore 2 heavy development by Oct 08. Expansion pack resources terminated by Sept 08 (which means Spore's 1st expansion pack should be "completed" by Fall??)

I actually worked for EA in August for a small project and I'm currently looking at the resource list for EA's worldwide projects. EARS (Electronic Arts - Redwood Shores) has Spore and Spore 2 listed under development. There are only 2 human resources assigned for the month of march for Spore. Yes, to confirm speculation: many resources from the original production team for Spore were allocated to the Wii, Xbox, mobile versions...etc etc. The good news is Spore 2 is prediction to start heavy development by July 08.

Wow, you're smart

Don't take it all as fact. Just like I stated, it is my opinions. But I'd say It's mostly hearsay directly from EA's inner workings.

@ sporeinfo - Where did you get all of this information?

sporeinfo - Jan 02, 2008 12:45 PM

Oh, i forgot to mention. Another big reason is "simultaneous multi platform release". This might be a reason for the release slip. It's all about marketing and hitting the hype to sell on all platforms. Releasing one platform late equals lost sales. So don't be surprised if you see Spore on every platform available, they are trying to hit this license like the "The Sims" license. Look for it on PC, DS, Mobile, iPod, iPhone, Wii, ect. I know at least a few of these versions are almost done.

All these problems of spore info not reaching the community correctly stem from an internal staffing problem that EA had. Recently, it has been heard that three people that comprised of the EA marketing team walked into their superiors office and Quit, one after another. That is why places like XSPORE's pleas were not being heard for quite a while. The other problem, I believe, is that they are trying to cut out enough content to make the game a little less unwieldy to the "average" user, i.e. the general "casual" or "The Sims" gamer. Do you remember when this game started with DNA manipulation, and 3 other steps before the cell manipulation. They also took out the underwater creature level. They did try to replace the atomic level manipulation with a tetrisy style game, but I believe that didn't even make it into full production. Ultimately, according to EA style I believe they are setting this game up to omit certain "areas" to allow for expansion packs later on. Then again it could just be that I'm turning into another jaded game dev.

I'm using my Wii! I think EA should at least post the editor demo we've all been wanting, but they really love delaying! (Army of Two anyone? I didn't think so!)

Carnage - Jan 02, 2008 08:25 AM

Aint we suppose to get some news in January because the EA representitive(Avril i think) said we should

Insanitariux - Jan 02, 2008 07:57 AM

Who am I? I forgot where I'd left of. Anyone know where I can find a fansite for some game that I've heard about but can't think of right now? Oh, how about here?

Lucidspore - Jan 01, 2008 09:44 PM

Meh, Im am content with waiting for Spore now. Ive grown used to waiting and hopefully many of our other members are getting used to waiting. Ive been on a Hiatus from this site for a while, only zippign in and out. Sure I still am as excited, if not more excited for Spore as I was long ago, but Ive just become accustomed to waiting

Spore FTW - Jan 01, 2008 02:41 PM

Of course it will be out this year.....at least thats what I keep telling myself....

xDreamache - Jan 01, 2008 01:22 PM

rank: he also said last year that it'd be out on christmas (the one that just past) on the colbert report and other places. :P im sure it'll be out this year though.

rankaratar - Jan 01, 2008 12:09 PM

It is going to be released this year. Will Wright says they are only playtesting and polishing the game now, he said nothing of the sort last year. Good to have something other than that creepy Christmas kid on the page though

TebTeb - Jan 01, 2008 11:41 AM

First Comment! I sure hope your right about it being released this year and not next year. I've been waiting too long for this game to come out.
