3D Models of Spore Creatures

We have known for quite some time that Spore will offer characters in 3d, but a new piece at the NY times site further solidifies the news by briefly mentioning Spore in their article about 3d printers. EA has expressed their interest in making 3D models of creatures created in Spore available to games. 3D models have begun to develop more popularity in online games like World of Warcraft and Second Life because of the players creating thir own character. EA will use 3D printers to make the models. The full article can be read here and a thanks to sporefanuk for finding this article.

the idea is cool i guess...kinda nerdy though lol but good money for them. but seriously, $75 for a 3 inch model of your creature that sits still...with a decent graphics card it'll look better on your computer plus move!

Is this confirmed or still just something EA is "Thinking About?" I'm being too lazy to read the article... I know EA said they were trying to decide if this would be worth while. I wonder if it really woud be any good, the print outs would be cool, but would they sell enough to make it worth while? And how much would they cost?
