Spore Phases
Spore is all about evolving your very own species. As such, the gameplay in Spore is divided up into several phases of Evolution:
Tide Pool Phase: As science should suggest, any species will inevitably start off as a single cell organism and the species you create in Spore is no exception. This is a two-dimensional mini-game where a player controls his or her single cell by swimming it around a pool of primordial ooze, devouring smaller organisms and avoiding the larger ones. At this stage, players can upgrade their cell with defense mechanisms such as flagella and cilia.
Creature Phase: Should you survive the hard-knock life of a single-cell organism, you'll find yourself in a three-dimensional "water world" environment. The game remains the same here as you still work on taking out the smaller less fortunate while avoiding the bad boys of the sea. Like every stage of the game, you'll be allowed to upgrade and further customize your creature. With the proper will-to-survive, you'll be dropping the fins for some legs and emerging onto land (Note: For you sea lovers, the move to land is entirely optional!) Now things are starting to get interesting. Once on land, you'll find yourself one part of a dynamic ecosystem that is inhabited by the creations of other players. While still a matter of survival of the fittest in the most simple terms, you are a much more complex creature at this point.
Tribal Phase: Let out a mighty mating call and you'll realize that you're not as alone as you've felt for so long. Soon, the R&B music will kick in and you'll be reproducing with another creature of the same species. You'll grow in complexity and before you know it find yourself just one part of a whole tribe! At this stage, a player will deal with increasingly complex creatures as well as the micromanagement of a small tribe! Now, not only will you be able to tweak your creature further with new abilities but you'll be able to customize your tribal village as well.
City Phase / Civilization Phase: As technology permits, your creatures will surpass the stage of tribal life and enter into a stage in which they are able to create thriving cities! As your creatures' brains evolve, more and more opportunities and technologies will become available. Players are given complete control over the architectural design of their cities making no two cities quite the same. At this stage, the game becomes much more diplomatic. With neighboring cities surrounding your own, you are given some choices: work with them, or bomb them to oblivion.
Space Phase: When that brain in your creatures' noggins gets large enough, you'll be given the option to create a UFO. At this stage, armed with a UFO you can cruise over the surface of your planet abducting whatever content you choose, be it another creature, plants, etc. More importantly, you can zoom way out into space where you will first realize that you're just one planet out of millions of others. Now you can interact with other planets in a multitude of different ways and make important and fun upgrades to your UFO. Keep in mind: these planets are inhabited by the creations of other real players! This stage is where the real fun begins!

24. blyndsentry - Aug 12, 2008 07:43 PM
Actually they cut the underwater creature phase, when you finish in cell phase you go right to land. Sorry to burst your bubble if you were excited about it but it'll probably be in an expansion.

There Is An Ending When You Get To The Center Of The Galaxy. No Matter How You Control And Play Your Creature It Always Ends That Same Way It Is The Only Ending.
