Spaceship Combat

This has got to be the WORST combat system i have ever used...did this ruin space phase for anyone else, or is it just me?

Theres something about rushing back to your bases every 30 seconds that kinda kills the game.

Nope, i tell you what ruined my space stage:

It's the fear of expanding closer to the center... not because of the grox, but the fact that my colonies can't f***ing take care of themselves... .

Ohnoes pirates, Ohnoes ecodisaster, ohnoes pirates.....

How am i supposed to leave them alone....

i dont think the combat system has anything to do with you having to rush back to your bases every second

The combat system is fine, the only things that bother me about the space phase are the expendable tools, and there only being three ways of making sporebucks, all of which are time consuming, i mean seriously, i'd take half the money i'd make from selling spice as a periodic income=P

When a planet gets attacked every 30 seconds, you have to rush back and defend it with the crappy combat system...so yes, it has alot to do with it.

Get some badges and buy an uber turret for gods sakes, or do like me and kill anyone with enough balls to attack you.
If you can't handle the space combat system, i reccomend getting some skill, cuz i deal with grox attacks with the pulser lazer, which is incredibly hard to aim=P i reccomend moving and turning while luanching proton missles if your ufo is crap tho

I find it pretty repetitive too.

you don't really have to go to the rescue if you know that your planet has enough defenses to defend itself. I turn all of my colonized planets into T3 planets so that my cities can be fully equipped with turrets. Once you get enough badges, buy an Uber turret. Also, if a specific planet keeps getting attacked by the same race, it means that there is an enemy colony near your planet. Destroying that colony will stop the attacks.

Actualy, i hated the space stage combat system when i first started... but ive grown to like it, hell i even think its fun now. You just have to learn how to use it, and then how to take advantage of what your given.

Theres more ways than one to use a tool.

Space stage seems great ( I bought Galactic edition, but have to play it at my friends place. ) The biggest problem to begin with is terraforming, as you cant make many colonies on the pink or purple spice planets without it - and they're expensive and are one-time use.And the complexity meter is my mortal enemy.....

Hehe. When i started civ stage, i saw a tribe of my people, so i sent a religious vehicle to go have a chat with them, accidentally demolishing their town centre....

when you unlock more badges you get terraforming tools that are permanent, and dont get used up. They just use energy like the lazer etc

I'm sure EA will introduce a patch that will either make your bases able to defend themselves (To a certain point) or decrease the number of pirate attacks and ecodisasters you see overall.

One more thing,
i'm making a note here: (:HUGE FAIL) (inside joke lol)

Maybe raiding parties (even by Pirates), when i say raiding i mean direct attacks against the colonies, cause no problems at all, but whenever pirates try to steal my spice, the turrets do NOTHING! The pirates just approach the city, beam up the spice and get lost...

did anyone notice that as well?

What I noticed is that pirates are friggin fast. It takes forever to kill them. At least for the start-game space ship.
And they even have moderate AI. One lures me away and the other tries to get spice. I go after the one stealing spice and it's the same.
And the one who lures away uses different maneuvers to lose me. Like going forward and when I catch up he goes straight backwards. Not like the dumb-ass enemy aliens.

Yea. I wonder if it has to do with the glitch where turrets can't aim backwards? Maybe they're the same. It seems like once I'm hovering over an opponent's city (or vice versa) turrets become meaningless.

QFT

I got a uber turret on most planets that matter but if its not the pirates or some other alien race attacking me there's probably some ecodisaster going on.
Its really annoying being forced to look after your colonies the entire time. I know you can plant anti ecodisaster crap I just don't want to place one of them on every planet.

I really wish your colonies would defend themself with ships and take care of their own problems.

The reason the pirates that steal your spices doesn't get attacked is that they use cloak. It looks completly the same as when you use the cloak so it has to be that.

I agree that the combat system is fully worthless.
I mean here I am flying around in an uber-interstellar spacecraft with a tractor beam and all, but I don't have any targeting systems??
I should be able to select a target and select a weapon and press a button that says "keep hitting this target until it's dead or I have no energy left or it's out of range".
Let me worry about piloting rather than trying to keep the mouse cursor on a squirmy foe while trying to evade any non-guided weapons or stay away from their short-range.weapons.
The only way I can keep track of what's going on is to pause, locate my opponent, unpause and immediately fire at them and dodge incoming attacks then pause again to get my bearings.
It's a cumbersome and non-user-friendly system, there is no logical reason for it (it should be built in given the level of tech ingame) and it should be improved.

And yes, I got my butt handed to me on a platter on my first try of the space phase. - Mostly because I was slow to get used to the stage and get things going and at least partly because the combat system sucks so badly.

The uber-turrets is nearly indestructible. Place one of your planet and you're good to go. If it's Pirates, I usually don't bother heading back anyway since the spice will regenerate by the time I go to pick it up anyway.
