Turn off introductory space missions?

I reached the space stage yesterday and was looking forward to exploring my home solar system and maybe colonize the moon of the planet I grew up on. I wanted to go very slow and first settle down in my own solar system before venturing out into the galaxy. Instead, you're forced to do the introductory missions which make you fly out of the solar system and explore the vicinity.

I thought, okay, this is the tutorial. It's just built this way so you can learn how to play the space phase. I started another game in the space stage, hoping that I could skip the tutorial missions... nope. Same thing. You're always forced to play through them, and you don't even have the option of staying put in your solar system for a while and just build up some colonies. There is an option in the settings dialog to "turn off tutorials," but doesn't change anything.

So my question would be, is there a way to turn off the introductory space missions?

Otherwise, the game is great. Space has a lot of potential for fun, but I'd rather not rush through it.

Thanks!

You can skip the basics, that make you fly around and what not. But you have to goto that one planet with the crashed ship, so you can get the interstellar drive, which then leads you to go out of your solar system and find that dead civilization. After that, THEN your pretty much free to do what you want. But i know you gotta do a few tasks to get a free colony placing item.

Yes, skipping the basic flying lessons works. But you're still forced to play through the introductory colony, terraform, SETI, etc. missions, even though you already know how all of it works. If you choose to ignore those missions the game still expects you to go through them. You can't really do anything besides fly around aimlessly until you finish all the missions.

Additionally, colonies are so expensive that the only way you can afford to build them in the beginning is to do missions for alien races. The game kind of shoves you out into interstellar space whether you want to go there or not.

Again, I really don't want to gripe about the game - I'm loving it. It just seems a bit overly set in telling you what you need to do, instead of just letting the player decide.

Well after playing Space for a while now, at first it's like this. There really isnt much you can do because you need more money to be "free" so to say. Not to mention you can only travel so far before you UFO runs out of energy, but yeah play it long enough, and unlock all the tools, you can really then do what you want. Until then your gonna need to do missions and what not to earn your "freedom"

If that makes any sense... XD

No, by all means it isn't the worst that could happen. It's just that my idea of a realistic evolution for a space-faring civilization would be to slowly expand outwards from their home planet - colonize their moon, then the neighboring planet, then the system...

Hopefully the modding community will soon erupt with many creative ideas of their own and implement different space expansion possibilities.
