Starting habitat

So far I've only seen semi-jungle / greenish areas as the starting place for your creature, will other places like the tundra or the Steppes be starting places?

I guess we'll find out once we get the game. I think we'll be able to choose our home planet, but I'm not 100% sure.

No, look at this screenshot, they are in the tribal phase so they must have started on the planet

Looks interesting, I sure hope we can choose our planets, I'll be going for a really sci-fi looking planet.

You pick the planet your comet crashes into. Life forms and you live out your life on the planet

It's probably best if all the planets are temparate all over. They're too small for climate variation. Isn't it only like a square kilometer per planet?

And where did this information come from? Excuse me, but I've heard billions, and I've never heard any less than one million. Will Wright has frequently said that to explore Space Stage fully would take more than a lifetime. 50 000 seems doable.

The planets are procedurally generated, so they don't have to work on the number of the planets.

Maybe even a few days before finishing Spore, they can type in a number to the planet generator, and that many planets will be.

It can be 1 or, 42, or 50 000, or billions, or quadrillions, or anything what they want.

perhaps it will be linked to the power of the Comp.
Have a beefy processor get billions of planets, got an aging CPU and you'll get 40

Naaa, because that has to do more with memory than it does CPU. If your CPU can handle one big, detailed planet, it can handle 50,000,000 planets- of any type. Just not all at the same time... Not that you'd need to do that in the game anyway.

Planets are not procedurally generated....(i think).....We all saw that video with the a Spore team member that was making a planet the title was something like "how the spore team makes one million planets really fast." I would rather have the game randomly choose a planet than me pick it...People should have to make their creature to fit the environment. Well, I think that atleast

Wow, do you really believe that they make millions of planets personally?
Even hitting Enter button a million times would be hard work!

That was a SIGGRAPH 2007 presentation, "creating four billion planets", and if you would watch it again, you would see that he talks about how they make billions of planets using procedural methods.
He just showed the program, that is normally used by the generator algorythm, not by a person.
