Dr. Kilory's Review

For those who clicked on my review, I give my gratitude. For very little care about the review section anymore and already have an idea of what Spore is like. For those who want to know my opinion, congratz, you have found my review. Now these opinions are mine, this is what I think of the game, so don't complain that you don't agree. Alright, let’s begin; Spore is made out of five distinct games, Cell, Creature, Tribe, Civ and Space. It also has numerous creators to go along with them. The first I will begin with, will be none other than the first stage, cell.

Cell
You start with a nice little meteorite falling toward a planet that you choose. You get to choose the name of the planet and what it looks like from the start of the game. I decided to go with the cliché Earth colors and named my dear planet, Kilory. The meteorite crashed into the planet in an explosion of giant proportions, shockingly not obliterating the planet itself or altering anything. A piece of meteorite falls into the ocean and deep into sea. It seems that all water no matter which color of planet you choose is blue when in the cell stage. When the meteorite hits the interestingly lit bottom of the sea, your cell pops right out of it. I choose to become a carnivore and went on to eating all the meat in the area. How that meat got there, I'm guessing that other cells must have been swimming around and then just exploded. And it happens that there are a bunch of plant pieces as well. Well once I ate enough I grew larger, because that happens in real life you know. When I was larger I had come to see another cell get eaten by a larger one. A piece had flown out, it was that coveted spike of which the cell that got eaten didn't have. This makes perfect sense. If you've seen a zebra get eaten by a lion, the lion will eventually evolve to get stripes. And also by eating things, this gives you DNA points in which you can buy parts that you have discovered to put on your creature. So the lesson is, if you eat more, you are more susceptible to evolution. Anyways, so all I did was kill cells, get their parts, evolve, get bigger. And amazingly this is kind of addictive. Even if the science is completely inaccurate, the game play is actually quite fun. So once my dear Kilite grew big enough, he could move on to land. Upon evolving you are greeted with a nice history of your cell, all the evolutionary stages and what you did. Then after seeing that, you put legs on your creature and you swim up to shore. This is probably the worst stage, even with it being addictive, it gets repetitive.

Creature
Once creature stage is finished loading, you see your creature run on to land with a bunch of his friends. His friends won't help him at all in the beginning. To make up for that, when you attack a creature, all the others cower away while you brutally kill the one. And by brutally I mean lame World of Warcraft attacks, you have to wait until you can bite again. In real life when you attack someone with a sword, do you attack, wait, attack again, wait, do a special attack? I don't think so; you would just keep on jabbing away. You then level up like a regular MMORPG, getting more health as you evolve. Evolution does not work like that in real life. And what the heck is with all the skeletons everywhere? You get more parts by ripping the skeleton open, real scientific. You then get to have a friend in your quest to...do stuff. You wouldn't be on a quest to evolve because this game does not represent evolution. Anyway, I got this cute little guy as my friend, he got killed so easily. So I decided to add one of my own species to my pack. It makes it a lot easier to kill stuff. I eventually met an epic creature, it looked really cool. I then saw a U.F.O. It just flew around though... Nothing really that exiting, there was a meteor shower, but I was at my nest when it happened, so I didn't get hurt. And apparently most the creatures just stay in there nest, they don't do anything else. Since when does every creature have a nest? But apart form all this, the game play is addictive. I did have fun killing off entire species, and I loved looking at the landscapes. All in all, this is an ok stage, not the best, but not the worst.

Tribe
Then comes, in my opinion, the best stage, Tribe. Tribe plays out as a wonderful RTS, with you controlling you race, you go on a journey to dominate the planet. You need to fish or hunt for food if your a carnivore, or farm if your a herbivore. It is basic, but fun. I love the outfitter, dressing up your creature in armor has never been more fun. Soon, another tribe came into existence and my race of Kilori wouldn't have that. They invaded as quickly as possible and killed them off. All throughout the animation runs smoothly. However what stinks is that you can't name your creatures, they are already named for you. So my Chief got to be named Simmons...yay... Anyway, my tribe kept on growing, some hunted, and some stood guard of my food. When they got hungry they ate, when I was bored I made them dance, and when I was ready, I took on the other tribe in combat. Probably the best time to do so is after they try to raid you. When they try to raid, you have all your guys right near you, so it is easy to counter. Once the raiding party failed, you charge their tribe. Make sure you have someone standing guard, or your hard earned food will be stolen by a pesky creature. I did this until the last tribe was up, there was an epic blocking the path between them and me. A real stupid looking one too. But I found it funny when their tribe was decapitated by the lone epic. I then went around with all my creatures (since it was the last tribe I didn't need food anymore) and then I wiped them out.

Civ
This is probably the second best stage, it plays out a lot like tribe, except this time, you're against your own species. Again the outfitter is really nice, this time I made my creature with armor all around, and a crown. The city editor is an easy city planner, nothing like Sim City. It comes with editing your buildings, vehicles and anthem. The building editor is pretty cool, but I personally like the vehicle. Since I had chosen a nest near the water during creature, I now had a city with a port. That means I got to have sea vehicles. Sea vehicles are the best way to go in the beginning, they are powerful and fast. I made mine look like a duck thing. You have to control geysers coming out of the ground called spice. These translate to money. I soon controlled all the spice mines around me for there was no one to stop me. But then another city arose and challenged my authority, he was soon crushed by my sea vehicles. This happened some more times and then eventually I developed planes. I created one that looked like a bunny. I then invaded the second continent and the planet was mine. It was an easy stage, all you have to do is mob the enemy with planes. But before I went and killed them, I tried my strength on an epic creature, he was killed easily. But since when can epics breath fire?! These things suddenly in Civ can shoot frakken fireballs! Oh well, good thing I had invulnerability!

Space
And then there was Space, the entire game leading up to it. It was a disappointment, the fighting was fine, but there are some things that really bugged me. For one, the terraforming, they really dummed it down and instead of doing a whole bunch of things, they instead just made it atmosphere and temperature. Terraforming I thought would be awesome, but no... Even when you use terraforming sculpture tools on enemy cities, they are not affected. The planet coloring tools were fun, but hard to find. Since when are spare spaceship tools found on random planets? The other thing is the constant need for you to fix things, ecodisastors and pirate raids every ten minutes. Why can't they deal with it? I am not the only spaceship that you have! But then again, you can't even have fleets when everyone else gets them. No instead you need to make friends with people to get a really lame ally. Your allies are so easily destroyed, however the recent patch fixed this a little. And all the planets look the same, the only real different ones are the storybook planets. I have a colony on that purple cotton candy planet, that is the only cool planet I have seen. And you can't even get out of your spaceship, well actually you can, but in this really slow hologram that fails at life. You eventually meet the Grox, who actually befriended me... They asked if I lost weight... Oh well, they would be a great ally. And some advice, never go to war with more than one nation, You will be screwed. All in all, space is an ok game, better then creature, but only just.

So here’s the stages from best to worst.
1. Tribe
2. Civ
3. Space
4. Creature
5. Cell

The best aspects of this game is
-It's frakken incredible of how well the creatures animate
-Creators are nice
-Game play is fun and addictive

And the bad
-Butchered science
-Makes no sense at points
-Annoying at some points
-Too short

So the final score is
8.5

I beg to differ about Tribal Stage, but pretty good review in all

This is a fair review and I like it.

You are very right about the length of the game.

Its so easy to beat the stages of Tribal and Civilization phase in under one hour, which shouldn't happen in a game like this.

I like your review, very informative but one large flaw:
You claim that Spore wasn't scientific? Spore is NOT supposed to be scientific! It's not supposed to be an educational game.

It claims to be an evolutionary simulation, is it, no.
