I think that the developers got a little to ambitious with the game.
I theorize that when they were making the game, they were throwing all sorts of different things in their. They then came to the sudden realization that the game had become bloated and far from the original idea. So they tightened it up, made the game to be used by all, fixed up the bugs. Seeing as almost every aspect of this game is procedural, it will have been a hard effort to get it all right.

Money Money Money, well at least for the 2nd year of the delay, the first year was overambition which has now been rectified by the delays caused by money giving us the public hopefully a awesome game.

Well lets not forget the merging into the EA Sims Division... Although that does not play a large part, its a good placeholder for the time where EA choose to postpone development for financial reasons.
Besides, its not one reason. This would probably be the result of unforeseen small events. Giant Spaghetti Monster!!!

I have long held the theory that it has been a financial decision. Better sales for 2009 fiscal is a great way to ensure your long term financial stability. As for a giant spaghetti monster, that sounds just as likely as anything else. Heck, not a bad creature to consider for the creature editor, now just one question...pesto or red sauce?

They probably took a look at the audience and further draw of the game and decided that they wouldn't lose money from a delay.
I mean honestly, most people say they will end up buying the game no matter how pissed they get, anyway. I think it could very well be a financial move. |

This was only 1,5 years of delay, to be honest, this is not even outrageously long:
Prey was released 11 years after its announcement, Team fortress 2 was developed for 8 years, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was delayed for 6 years, etc. etc. etc. They simply overestimated the technological challenge, and their manpower. This happens very often, almost every day, but we don't notice it until it happens with our game.

I think its firstly what xandy said but also most definately a good bit of what treefrog said.

There is the chance that they only said they make it to give repution to EA... this may mean that it will be done... bt wath if those ideos dont show the game wath is its only random.... *okay this long i was eable to write it with out passing out*....
Well its not too easy to make a game like this so maybe they dosent tld us that this will take this long (i mean they DID know it will take this long) becouse they didnt wanted it to be a dead project becouse the lack of intrest. In the other hand i think this hapend with the games wath Alterego said, like prey STALKER. And the othres. And Harrold: Call me Buddha but im not belive in evil... I just belive in: need, selfish humens and Madness...

I bet it's a combination of fixing bugs in the procedural code (funky things happen when you leave them to the computer's interpretation!), adding/cutting features, polishing what's left, and then of course financial reasons. I bet we haven't heard anything new because... well... there isn't anything new, except for when they declare the release date.

Its always about money. And if its delayed again I wont be as into the game as I am not. There better not be a single fucking bug in this game. If there is the move was purely a money move. Idk what else you could do with a game that could have been released 2 years ago other than fix bugs or make the game look prettier.

It wasn't about money...Will Wright stated that he didn't want his game to be just something haphazardly tossed together that needs constant patching. He wanted to create a masterpiece that in itself was nearly perfect. If people cannot wait for perfection, why do they play computers...Computers have taken many many years to come as far as they have, and you don't see people complaining about the next graphics card coming out. Wow I got off topic.
