as a games developer myself i know the amount of testing that goes into any piece of software and games are the worst as they are all different to test then sandbox games have so much that can be done testing takes forever 3/4 of development time is usally devoted to testing and maintainance.

With a game like spore with its depth of gameplay and procedural generated content so much could go wrong meaning a lot of testing would be required.

I'm not even sure Maxis will release a beta version publicly since this game is so highly anticipated they may do all the testing in house which by definition is considered alpha testing.

Well maybe late april or june old still be possiblites b mid february, Hopefully July i it is quarter 3 because any later is too close to school for me anyways.

I think a beta would be great in regards to testing , but I cant see them doing that to be honest. I have to say Im saying this from a programming perspective not just because I would love to try the game. Looking at objectively It would paint a clearer picture as to some of the issues that might arise when it hits the big public release.

Doubt they will do it though , even though other big titles have done this.

Why don't we stop talking about the "official release date" until it is actually the Official Release Date.

According to the websters dictionary:
Official - Public and formal; ceremonial

and from the sounds of it none of these "official release date's" are really Official. Even though I would love to have it by March. Let's just wait until those who matter agree on a date, then we can say it's official hehe

I would like to have spore in march while everone gets it a few months later. I wouldnt tell anyone hee I would just simply take screenshots while iplay and then enter them into the wallparer contest and everyone would wonder where I got all the pictures from.

It's true that there are no official release dates, and I would love to have it in march but of course thats just wishful thinking. Many people just want a release date so they have something to go off of. I would like an official word but everywhere you go its completely different. The intelligence in this thread just hit rock bottom.

The guy works at a game store, he had some info, and he gave it to us. It was never set in stone, but it was made available to us. And now we've got some real weirdos sounding cries of doubt and treason... on a guy who was just trying to be nice.
