So we'll all be dead by Wednesday

Well the big hadron particle collider event is happening this Wednesday. For those who don't know they will collide two particles together in a 26 mile long chamber which costs billions to make to help recreate what the universe was like after the big bang.

However, it has been getting a lot of press because there is a small chance (very small) that this experiment could also create a particle like a black hole which will swallow the earth...

So anyone worried? Is this just the new Y2K?

black holes don't exist, the universe orbits the earth and the world is flat.

We'll be fine. You get nay-sayers to anything. I was kicked outta my friends house for pointing out to her father (holy roller a##hat) that if he believes that the world will end in 2012 hes obviously pagan b/c that date is based off the Mayan calendar.

They have already test fired half of it. If it works as expected it's going provide quiet allot of information. Allot of the gripe and worry on is from people that aren't even part of the scientific community and don't exactly know what there talking about. I'm not really worried about it.

As i matter of fact i am, and am having trouble sleeping recently about it. i am very worried and can only hope they know what there doing. i think that, no matter how small the chance, if something has a chance of destroying the world, it should NOT take place. I knew about this for quite some time and am pleasently surprised that someone else knew.

P.s

I do know what i'm talkin about. I don't wanna die.

They already have created mini black holes, what they should be worried about it the strange quark.

Why will doing this help science?
I think they want it to end the world.

Well apparently it will help simulate the universe right after the big bang happened which i could help in unifying all the theories in physics creating:

THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING

Which means that we will have one big theory which will explain everything in the universe. The only problem unifying at the moment is the theory of gravity, we can unify the other forces: the two nuclear forces and electrostatic forces...hopefully this will answer that and help prove the existence of other particles...

So if they are right we all die because the universe will be created again and if they are wrong they wasted tons of money. They are fucking stupid.

Of course, the good news is- if we all die, we'll still have three days of playing spore!

No, your a f****** asshole if you think that's the case. The universe will not be recreated, we are just simulating the conditions of the big bang. Get it?

If the atom is in a chamber they have full control over it, what's the point?

Do you think a chamber can contain energy that can potentialy create a new universe?

Wouldn't it be great if when this happened the world didn't end but every one got cool powers!

O RLy?

Good... I was getting worried for a moment...

Y'know, scientists were worried when the first nuke was tested, there was this fear that the nuke was going to ignite the nitrogen in the air, therefore causing a massive eurption of heat that would instantly icninerate all life on Earth.

Those of you who are worried should check this page out:

What Will the LHC Find? | Cosmic Variance

odds of a stable black hole that eats away the earth, destroying all of the living organisms on it? 10% to the negative 25th power. good luck. ; P

(and the odds of finding god are 10% to the negative 20th power.)

Here it goes. People not really understanding whats going on making assumptions because of what others make assumptions on.

Did any of you even read what the LHC actually does? Or that they have all ready performed safety tests and found no basis for any conceivable threat.
