as you all know sometime ago some one mentioned dwarf fortress which was a big hit with in the community So here's another title. I don't know how many people have heard of mount & blade but it really is a great game with the most realistic combat I have ever seen. The main objective of the game is to take over every other castle for your faction, you can choose your faction after they find you a worthy vassal. The gameplay is like medieval total war except you fight alongside your soldiers instead of controlling them from a birds eye view. Ps it cost like 20 dollars I think, well worth it with all the mods and gameplay elements.

Tis an epic game though, and you have no idea how much it has changed through beta. I recommend everyone try out the trial.

I own this. I heard about it from static a while ago while it was in beta, but I didn't buy the actual game until a little while after that.

I would really like to know how mount & Blade was when it first started out. I picked it up during version 8.50 or something and have always wondered what it used to be like.

I played it mainly during the 7,00 series. The graphics were alot worse than they are now, no sieging [ except in the last days mod which I think had it], only two factions [ vagir and swadia], and because of that fewer troop types obviously. Oh yeah the factions also weren't in open war, and there was like maybe two variants of mission types.

It's fun for a while, but the mod selection is weak, and most mods will include things you want alongside things you really don't want, while other mods will be the exact opposite, with the things you liked about the other mod screwed up, but the things you didn't like are so much better.

Also it's not very realistic to win battles by charging down the enemy line on a horse swinging wildly and taking out groups of 200+ enemies before they even reach your troops. I used a mod to increase troop numbers in battle to 600 and it really only made sieges funner.

I really need a mod where I can become my own King that doesn't give me a whole bunch of overpowered or ridiculous shit, but still makes money-making easier so you can support a huge army if I'm going to enjoy this game again.

As cynical as I am about games I must say M&B did grab my attention for a time and for an indie game well it is top notch, like was already said it gets repetative after a while but yeah I still rate M&B well for many reasons.

My one grief with it was the drm style potection which when I first bought I couldnt get any feedback regarding what happens when I want to put it on another PC as I sometimes am buying PCs every few months(not so much these days but still)

Good game though, I am actually bored and looking for something else to play atm, thinking of jumping on the latest X game which has been sitting there for a while but what puts me off is all the mundane crap you have to go through before you can get a decent ship and start enjoying the game, still I plan to do this at some point

Two things, First I would love to watch you try to attack 200+ enemy's on normal it would make you rip you balls off and wear them as a hat. Second if you want money raid villages. Just annoying to read some one complain about something where there just being ignorant.

Got to admit, the start of the game IS very harsh.... You jump from attacking looters and bandits to both quantity and quality. Misjudge that jump and your fucked.

Here Tophat, what mods do you use?? I just played the stock game a while back but if I were to play again I would need a mod that means the game was extensive in story, events and quests, any ideas?

It's hard to find a good mod like that. M&B is not a story driven game, and most mods make you massively overpowered (If you play the Star Wars mod, you'll quickly find yourself with a small epic army and you'll bee shooting down stormtroopers by the hundreds with your sniper rifle).

I'm not sure if they've remade it for the newest version, but BY GOD, if the Roman mod is back, that is one VERY good reason to play it.

Right now I'm trying out "sword of damocles" looks fun but still have to play it. The problem with M&B mods is that it's like trying to find something good at a dollar store and most of the crap there is equivalent of crap crapping out shit. A mod that I recommend is "Second Age" here's a link--------------->

Right now I'm playing on Custom Settlements mod.

It lets you found a settlement, and upgrade it, wage war, raid, etc.

It's not perfect atm (there's a bit of a slow start), but it's getting upgraded and improved constantly, so it can only get better.

Cheers all, I am playing x terran conflict atm and getting somewhere with it finally! So I now have an excuse to jump on M&B from time to time but yeah M&B , good game and when you use "indie" in the same sentence its a great game.

I've been playing sword of damocles a lot. It starts off really hard, very little income [ the key to a good start is winning tournaments though, the mod allows you to put higher bets than usual], but as get your own lords, more troops [ I can have like 300 troops right now I think], and you can afford better equipment it gets easier. Right now I'm at war with the Nords [ besieging them is really hard with the horsemen based faction I'm using] and I've taken a few castles and one town. Very good mod. Liberty or Death and the Western themed one sound good also. The Last Days was amazing on the 7.00 series so it'll probably be good now too.

Liberty or Death was remade? Meh.... wasn't exactly brilliant...

The western themed one may be good though. M&B is just that kinda game that it would be good for.

It's being made but I don't think its done yet. The first one to me seemed like it was half-done, but now there actually gonna make a map for it rather than just rename cities [ you had Georgia right next to New York, which isn't even close to right] and just do more in general since the game allows it now.
