fully customizable does not equal moddable.

anyone else agree with me here?
Ok, Sims and Sims 2 have custom content made by other players. Why not Spore?

I'm 22 and want blood. Why? Because I am not a kid, but an adult. Why should blood or gore bother me, and why shouldn't I have the choice of having it in the game or not. Blood among other things adds something called immersion. The more "realistic" a game is, the more immersed one can get into it. Now there are sci fi games and fantasy ones that arnt really realistic, but if one has a good imagination you can just as easily get fully immersed into the game.

It will be moddable its whether its mod friendly is the key, I would hope in the future they would release some kind of modding SDK but why would they want to do that when it would mean that players could make their own expansions? and BTW if you think player done mods are bad just look at the x3 Xtended mod, that is an amazing mod which arguably makes the game alot better. (Some of the freelancer mods were amazing as well, also the oblivion modding kit is simply put second to NONE when it comes to modding kits and what they are capable off)

At release I dont see the game being mod friendly at all but really if you want a massive lifespan you want to make tools so that its easy for players to add new parts to the game etc, thats just my view anyway

I pretty much agree with you here, even though it being mod friendly has nothing to do with it. All it means is the amount of time before someone can start implementing mods.

And if they really want to game to be majorly longeterm it would make sense big time for them to release tools exactly for this, what worrys me is they may not do this just so they can get away with making tiny expansions like some of the sims ones and push out lots in a yyear of to each of which doesnt add to much.

Im seriously hoping that within 6 months after release to 1 year there are some good tools out but Im not sure whether it will happen, I certainly hope so and if you think how this game has been marketted off epic poportions and such and the fact they apparently see the need to do the game right well in this day and age to really give players ultimate replay value and do a game right is to at some point enable players to mod and with non sub par tools

I hope it happens! Because I have seen certain player mods that are astounding and in some rare cases improve the game in aspects more so than the developers have

First off, NO Pc game is unmoddable. (As long as it is not a game that requires constant internet access, I'm not talking about online games becuase they are completly different)

If you believe spore is unmoddable, you do not know how mods work. And the possibilites of mods in spore are endless. Demon apocalypes, player owned space fleet, humans, aqautic creatures for player use, advanced religous features, magic, advanced economics, the ability to make it so that no species is aloud to attack your home planet, elc. They're all possibities mods can offer that the original game can't. Spore is plenty fun without mods, but it can be even funner with them.

I agree, there are loads of awesome ideas that could be implemetented in Spore. It isn't perfect, but if the devs added every possibility in the game would never be released. If you think spore is un-moddable ur just being narrow minded

Spore, in all of its might and glory, will eventually run ragged and become boring. Maxis has already specified that in the future they will make an expansion as well as the release of other content (Flora Editor, woo!). Given that modding is something that can keep games alive long after their release dates, should be researched before started, basically make sure you aren't going to put anything into your mod Maxis is already working on. But any way, Modding can keep a game balanced, alive, and well because the modders have a somewhat direct contact with the people who play the game, they have the, "This is great, and this would make it better". For instance I watched an old '05 spore demo, and saw the fish stage and was saddened to see it removed, I think that instead of removing it, they should have incorporated it into the creature phase to add more depth. Which would then keep the underwater element in the game. So much good can come from modding. I believe an SDK should be required with almost all PC games. And the best part about modding is, if you want to play you game Vanilla style, Go ahead! No one is forcing you to use someone elses mods, don't come here all puritan on people who want to do what they want to do to the game they payed for.
