China's One child Policy

What do you all think of the one-child policy that is in place in China: do you believe it leads to further problems? Takes away human rights? Or a useful tool against overpopulation?

well its a good way to no overpopulate, but the best way is to give up africa and help only a little amount of people there instead of creating the "blackhole" that just takes all the money and food and makes it disappear.

I actually agree with their one-child policy. Shame that more people on this blue marble aren't a little more responsible.

I never looked into it but what if you have a kid and then the wife is pregnant, does she have to get an abortion. And if she has the baby do they kill him or her?

generally i think the child is given up to adoption or sent into a home...maybe aborted if early....

the main problem with it is that if you are unmarried and have a second child you have to pay an extremely expensive fine...

I agree that it is alright to the extent that China is the most overpopulated country in the world and they therefore need to take measures to prevent greater overpopulation but I do not agree that people should be fined for the privelidge of prining another life into the world or that they shold be forced to kill that life if forced abortions are the case. But China has many things to worry about at the moment so I seriously doubt that this is their main concern, these other problems include treatment of Tibet, The pressure of the Olympic games and being the worlds most hated country in terms of abuse of the planet. (Not saying that Chin is hated just resented for not conforming to the limits set by the EU and America for the allowed anual emmissions of greenhouse gasses.)

The right to fuck and the freedom to spread one's unholy spawn are more important than the good of the rest of the race?

I say we hit two birds with one stone and only let people who pass a basic literary test and score over 120 on an IQ test be allowed to spawn.

Problems solved.

The one-child policy is definitely a human rights violation. Especially because if you have enough money you can buy permission to have another child. Rather than a law forbidding more than one child, they should have systems in place that just encourage having less children. For example, a tax break to married couples with less than 2 kids or something. Of course, that might create a distribution of wealth that the Chinese gov wouldn't like.

That's still pretty stupid. Just because someone is smart doesn't mean they contribute to society.

No they didn't. They said that so long as China wasn't following the guidelines they wouldn't either. America is one of the worst countries when it comes to dealing with pollution.

But the thing is China has 2 billion citizens and they are struggling to cope with them all...encouraging to have less won't make that much of a difference, they are in a crisis and so for now they must limit the amount of children they have....

The big problem to have come out of this is that a while back many female children were left or aborted because it was tradition for the male son to be the more important so now there are 200 million more men than women in China which will cause a massive population drop in the future. Luckily, China's moved on a little and people are now accepting whichever gender their child is.

Lets face it China isn't doing this because they want to its because they have to, they are being forced to import food products at a greater rate than any country and they are still having problems with people not having enough food. Thats why they all eat rice lots because it easy to farm, it cheap and it can be aquired on mass.
