Well stated! I especially like the sound First makes, flowing from an F to an I, pure brilliance. The segway was top notch as well.

Good job Red, no no, SUPURB job!

President Obama said it would be: a legally binding climate treaty calling for an ambitious reduction in carbon dioxide–83 percent by 2050.

*sarcasm* wow obama is really driving the nail down on this! The US is going to be carbon free in no time! */sarcasm*

Honestly, if I had complete government control, I would give a government grant to a group of people I would trust with my life and tell them to create hydrogen plants using solar power and hydrogen gas stations everywhere within 2-5 years (also hire some other people to oversee or videotape the progress). Also rush produce hydrogen cars so they are affordable and accessible to the general public. Screw debt, lose dependence on oil and end this stupid climate change.

Great. One problem.

Hydrogen is DREADFULLY expensive to extract and collect. People just wouldn't change. You'd have to raise tax on oil SIGNIFICANTLY to make hydrogen look worthwhile.

Solar power = Shit. Hydrogen power = Same problem as above, but also including the fact hydrogen wouldn't made produced fast enough.

1) we are lazy so put a link with your post or summarize for the people who don't want to bother looking if you want a couple more opinions.

2) its ambitious, its expensive,it has a possibility to work but will probably be broken by whatever president succeeds Obama and or whoever takes over for the other countries, there will be tens of thousands of complaints and to my mind atm seems like it will fail.

3)@Despised: some points i'd like to point out and that you might of realized(im in the mood to argue a little so forgive me and all)
  • no president has full governmental control so even if you become president you don't have all the governmental power

even people you trust can get fucked up and betray you.

instead of creating more power-plants make our existing renewable ones more efficient and capable of handling more people

5 years is one year longer then you'd be able to carry out unless you get re-elected (i'd say go with a decade and hope to god your vice president gets elected after you and wants to continue the project)but despite what everyone seems to think the massive amounts of money going into it will stop flowing into this project the moment a new president takes over (and probably redirected into the military unless we are lucky and the above case is the fact)

while you say screw debt you actually reduce it in the long run because there will be very little need for oil and we could probably run off our own reserves(also you have to think about air-traffic and ocean-traffic as well when it comes to the new power systems.

in general i agree with you but there will be a lot of opposition even if you do get it all started and there are likely to be major setbacks that will delay the project(likely said traitorous members of the group and or spies and such getting in and sabotaging it also look out for assassins cause there will be many..

I mostly mentioned solar power + hydrogen extraction because of the Hydrosol II concept. Sure its not as efficient as most would like but there is always room for intervention/improvements.

Quote:
The Sun is the most abundant source of energy on the planet. Hydrosol II is a pilot plant in the desert of Almeria, Spain that uses solar energy to produce hydrogen in a renewable CO2-free way.

The plant consists of a single tower and hundreds of sunlight directing mirrors. The concentrated sunlight is directed toward a reactor made of specially coated solar absorbers that enable it to split water - and thus to produce hydrogen in a CO2-free way.

Hydrosol II produces first solar powered hydrogen | Innovative News

If you've never seen this concept, the idea goes as such: Place a tower full of water in the center of a solar panel field. Angle the solar panels to reflect onto the water tower. Heat the tower via the reflected sunlight and the power generated by solar energy.

@Nexus: I appreciate your honest reply to my post. I do realize that my opinion isn't all that realistic but for all intents and purposes, I would like to think it was so easy and do-able. And who knows, if my thought did come into affect, maybe this global climate change scare is strong enough that people would switch without hesitation if all variables are accessible.

Doesn't it produce a pathetic amount of H2 though?

This all is exactly why I kept my reply short, sweet and above all: It clearly stated my opinion on this treaty thingy.

Unfortunately the electricity for cars has to come from somewhere which will most likely be fossil fuel anyway. Electric cars are also not nearly as powerful as hydrogen.

Ideally, a car with solar panels on it should work really well but not everyone can afford the technology and solar cars don't work too well in places that are normally cloudy.

I saw we go ahead and implement nuclear fusion power cells into everything. Everything I say!

Car? Nuclear fusion power cells.
Computer? Nuclear fusion power cells.
TV remote? Nuclear fusion power cells!

They must be everywhere. Also, hey, fuck it, let's just start controlling society Brave New World style while we're at the whole future thing. Controlled population? Fuck yes. Everyone should be genetically engineered at birth to enjoy the job they are selected to do. I guess some people might mind, but we can just put them in rockets and send them into the sun.

Free will ought to be removed, for everyone's best interests. Screw that shit, man. We should try and expand out into the galaxy, wiping out burgeoning alien civilizations as we go. If there are any that are more powerful then us, we can just "befriend" them and then stab 'em in the backs.

I also highly recommend that we elect one glorious leader, instead of this silly "democracy" rig western civilization's got going on right now. He can control everything and everyone. Don't worry, nobody will mind, since they'll be programmed to enjoy it. Also, we can revive dinosaurs, and ride them to work. Just because dinosaurs are awesome.

Gentlemen, I have seen the future, and it's awesome. And highly tyrannical/insane. But, hey, riding dinosaurs to work, right?

I think I got a bit off-topic there. Ah well.

Plus, solar panels are horrendously inefficient and expensive.

Haha, I remember when climate change was the defacto topic on this forum... and apparently it still is. Also, I'm back. And likely no one remembers me.

On the face of it I agree we need to stop relying on oil and look at alternative ways. I really cant be hassled detailing how though because really our politicians will never get around to doing anything remotely useful for any of the general public.

Obama as well I had hopes for him but unsurprisingly hes just like any other politician. That being said he got a rough time by those private healthcare people who are making and industry out of peoples ailments, I am for free NHS for any country that calls themselves civilised, offcourse many Americans are so easy fooled by the intentional BS propoganda that uses such scare tactics where you have these people with placards on the news saying its socialism in the backdoor and such nonsense

Obama if he gets proper healthcae in the US I would respect the guy alot but I see too many rich sleezebags lining their pockets with vested interest for it ever to happen
