I've only used PhotoShop (CS v.8) on the posts I've made so far.

Sketch
Scan
Re-Sketch
Color
Shade

(obviously more to it than that but it's the basic format I'm following)
Doesn't take more than 10min.

Some turn out better than others, I think, because I actually bother to sketch them in my sketch book as apposed to the margins of my notebook during a lecture... Oh well.
If I may, I'd like to encourage more comments on my own works. It will stimulate me to try harder and spend more time on them which I'd like very much.

Quick thanks to all who've enjoyed my creatures and said so through PMs and Posts. Your support is truly appreciated. <3<3<3

As i have said before, i really love your work Merci !
It really is inspirational.

As for constructive criticism, i wouldnt mind seeing a creature with either spots and stripes kinda thing, or a more varied skin tone. They are good, but they all seem to be one bold colour. If you could create a chameleon-type creature it would be amazing !

Those are cool Merci, they're more like concept art for the game than pretty much anyone else

Ororthau

Ororthau:

The Ororthau is an omnivorous creature. It has near-human intelligence. It's long arms have scythes attached to them for attacking prey. Though they are mostly used for self-defense against the large carnivores. The smaller arms are used for gathering fruit and using tools. It is also equipped with a an extremely toxic poison which it injects into it's prey/attackers using the scorpion-like stinger on the end of it's tale. The Ororthau are peaceful and extremely protective of it's young.(Which are born without the ability to sting attackers due to there un-developed poison gland in there tail. And it's "Scythe-Arms" are not fully developed.)

I will post a better pic of it... eventually. :P

Cool to see someone using zbrush on here. I'm assuming you used zspheres? It looks like you jumped to detailing it out too soon. You should first make sure the creature looks stable and has a solid center of gravity. Even though its an alien creature you should definatly look at some reference for anatomy you are not familiar with.

Any ways, play with zbrush more, you can make really beautiful things in there, it's limitless. I will be posting a zbrush creature (probably my final entry) in a week or two. If you do more stuff, I would be more than glad to give you some pointers!

Keep up the good work everybody!!

Your right about reference, I'll get better I'm pretty quick at this sort thing. Agree with you about its center of gravity but i think your going to cringe when you actually see certain things in spore.

Also I did feared that it wouldn't resemble a Spore like sort of thing, didn't want anyone to go "what the juice is this?!". Admittedly I'm still a bit rubbish at zbrush, I'm just making excuses.

Though I've try modelling a simple mesh in Max then working on it in zbrush and I've had mixed results.

I think Zbrush just takes a lot of getting used too no matter how many videos or tips you hear about it just comes down to practice.

I did use zspheres and I haven't really done painting in it before, I've pretty much been using a tablet with it from the start which helps a lot. I think my problem is just being a little impatience at the moment like you said.

First 3D package I learnt was 3D studio max then it was Maya and then it was zbrush (can be classed as a 2d as well as 3d application) .

Look forward to seeing your design though.

That's shows some of my 3D Max stuff sadly its not organic stuff but oh well you might like it.

Crazy happy time in zbrush:

Well its a lot better than what I did before I'm much happier with this one, after creating this I feel so much happier working in Zbrush and learnt a lot.

Just want to say thanks to broodovermind, made me go and rethink a few things though I think I was just not using zspheres very well the first time.

I went a little crazy with alpha's at the end but it was a lot of fun. (Didn't just mirror detail though)

Feet could probably use some work again. The way I look at it, apart from all the detail on the body this is more likely what people are going to be creating in Spore, unrealistic creatures that don't look like they can even stand up. :P

You don't know maybe it has strong bones or something. :P I think this took me about 2 hours in the end but its time well spend if you ask me considering how much better I think I've got.

Previous attempts make me cringe now. Wonder how raptyrX is getting on with Zbrush.

Wow!

Really nice job on the redo, BlueSun!! That came out really nice! I'm even more impressed by your mechs! Did you model all that detail or use a displacement map? I can only imagine how high the poly count is. Really impressive either way.

Definatly keep practicing, you are on your way to being a really good modeler! It may seem odd, but practice drawing as well. You don't have to get very good, but a better understanding of anatomy and the human figure, or even just some enviromnent or perspective stuff will improve your modeling skills by A LOT.

Keep up the great work!!!!

The Zoack

This is a Zoack, they are omnivores. most prefer to eat meat when they can. They are mostly peaceful only attack for food or defense. When hunting they grab the pray with there big claw and hold it while they beat it with there spiked tail.To eat the pray they tear it into small pieces with their two small claw's that are quite sharp, they also use these claws to harvest food from plants. they are covered in thick fur, that when they stand still almost blends in with the bark of the trees where they live. They usually hang around the Binamie tree, on which grows the blue binamie fruit to further enable their camouflage. Their head ears and the end of their tail is completely bald exposing their blue skin. Their claws and spikes on their tail are made of the same substance as their bones, their spike are actually bone sticking out of their skin. They are anti social creature preferring to be alone they only gather in large numbers once every couple of year's to breed. They have litters of 2-4 usually only half the litter makes it to maturity. They reach full maturity in about 2 years and live to be about 12 years old. Before they reach maturity they live with there mother.

Thanks, yeah I modelled the mech's in Max, they were made a while back for my college course but 3D work has been a hobby for me for a while now. I've messed about in maya too but overall prefer max. I modelled all the detail for those models but I've used displacements maps before too.

Actually I like sketching a lot but I've been getting into doing digital painting a bit more recently. I've used both watercolours and oils but I think doing digital painting is usually closer to how oils workflow is at least when you just use photoshop's default brushes. I've not had a tablet long so still getting used to it a little.

@Superman yeah I do think the claws/hands could use some work.

@ Superman: You should put something out there before you start criticizing others. You may have the talents but you already look like a douche.
