Lakeisu are deep-dwelling predators of the sea. Growing up to six feet in length, they use their extraordinray senses to find food in the low light of the deep ocean. Armed with heat-sensing organs in front of their eyes, bright red smell-receptors, and sensative tentacles under their chins to sense currents, lakeisu are experts at finding prey. Once they do, the reflective silver spots on their bodies confuse prey and make them easy targets for lakeisu hunters. Lakeisu come into the shallows to breed, and are capable of moving short distances over land using their powerful suction cups.

I really like this design. I thought the bit about the tentacles sensing current was very nice. I saw your insect creature and wonder if you have done anymore critters of that type?

I don't do many of that kind of creature. The only other one I've made with an exoskeleton would be the morphus. (If you haven't seen that one, it's on page 31 of the creature gallery.)

So, my final critter is the Stack Bug. The stack bug is not a sentient race, but is instead a parasite in another races society. It's habbitat is a place called Bramacas, where the pollution is so bad that all the smog is pumped up into the troposphere by thousands of gigantic chimneys, in an attempt to get rid of the harmfull pollutants. There are a group of people who must repair these chimneys when they break down, and deep down in the bowels of the larger chimneys are the stack bugs. Not much is known about their lifecycle or diet, or how there are so many subspecies in such a confined environment.

I donno, I drew this out of sheer boredom, and I'm obviously no artist, so yeah...

Anyway, I don't have a name for it, but as you can see, it's eyes are on both sides of its head, it's a tripod (that thing at the back is two legs that join at the head-thing, and then there's the leg in front at the bottom of its body), it has clapper-like hands, and little mouths on it's palms. It's also aggressive, and just a bit taller than a human.

@ Broodovermind: Wow, that is fuckin' awesome. Reminds me of those things in Cloverfield. Did you make it in 3D Studio Max? Or Maya?

Anyway, I sat down and did it again, and I give you...this...thing.

As you can see, It's got a shell (which is in no way a rip-off of Silent Hill ) and a bunch of tentacles with mouths at the top, and it walks like a spider. And it has Clam Hands. You gotta have the clam hands.

Now... I just some skill like you guys! *Cries*

Really sweet ideas as usual! I really like the pyramid idea, maybe it could be more like a turtle?

And yeah, I used to Maya to make the base mesh for the stack bug. Then I brought it into Zbrush for detailing and paint. If you have the time I strongly suggest you guys look up some tutorials for how to use those programs. They are somewhat easy to use and have limitless capabilities. They can also be pricy unless you know where to look.

Keep up the great work!!

Yeah, it was supposed to be a turtle, but I thought, screw it, and I went with the Pyramid Head...

About Maya, is it easier to use than 3d Studio Max? I was thinking about buying (*cough*downloading*cough*) one, but I don't know which one.

Personally I prefer max but that's only because I started with it, neither of them are harder than each other really. If you really want to learn you will be fine, their quite similar in many aspects but I hear Autodesk are going to change that.

I like a lot of plugins for max though, main one would be polyboost.

Only equivalent that I found for maya was NEX (that's in beta I think).

Best advice would be to try out both!

Sorry, bad quality picture. The new scanner is really terrible.

This colourful creature is a ptilodran. Ptilodrans are about the size of a large cat. They are strictly carnivorous, but they aren't picky. They'll eat anything from tiny insects to animals 3 times their own size. Ptilodrans are ambush predators. They sneak up on their chosen target, then spring frowards and shoot out their long tongue, which is covered in deadly neurotoxins. Then they wait for about 10 minutes and track the prey item, which has probably fled, by scent. Since ptilodrans have no incisors, they tear apart larger kills with their powerful claws.
The colourful skins of ptilodrans are sensitive to the sun, and are protected with a thin layer of mucous. They prefer warm, moist environments, and can be found in rainforests and swamps of their world.
Ptilodrans are quite social creatures, and live in colonies of up to 30 individuals. They mate for life, and females lay 1-4 eggs every year 1 month after mating season. Children are protected and nurtured by the colony, but still have only a 65% chance of reaching adulthood. When a colony gets too big, one group will split off to find a new territory.

This is the fantafly. The Fantafly is a herbivore that spends most of its time sleeping in the depths of the ocean often burying it self in the ground it hide its scent. Although the fantafly is at home it lays its eggs on the beach and during the winter often needs to go on land in search of food. The Fantafly has evolved many evolutionary adaptations to help in its daily stuggle. The Fantafly has developed a sensitive trunk, much like an elephant's. The trunk is used to reach the higher branchs and to dig deep holes to reach nutrient rich roots. The trunks sensitivity has caused some problems often envolving nose bleeds and alergies often resulting from exploring trees with stinging insects and thistle thorns. The Fantafly has many predators but it uses it feathered wings to escape danger when necessary. Because of the realitivaly small wing size to body ratio this method is often unsucessful. Flying accidents are the major cause of death to the fantafly population, even more than all the deaths to predators combined. The floating unibrow help the Fantafly to start random forum topics and is used often as evidence to flying parts and rayman recreations.

This is a PICTUR -------> FANTAFLY <-----
