I'll admit I've screwed up some mods on my end, not following the directions carefully enough and such, but I have also gotten some bad mods that did screw up my game.
I'm not saying modding is bad, I think it's awesome, it's part of the reason I stick to PC gaming, but everyone has to admit there are some people who call themselves modders that don't know what they're doing and screw stuff up.
I've learned over time that true modders take extreme steps to perfect their mods, and these other people, who screw things up, aren't recognized as modders by the community at large, and if you take the time to really look at things, you can find the respectable ones.
I say "Yes" to modding, it revives older games with fresh appeal, it balances gameplay, and it provides opportunities to learn how things work in these games. I've never been forced to download a mod, so it's not like modders are hurting anyone who doesn't want their stuff.
