Metal Gear Solid: World Corps

(To clear up now, this is a Spore forum, we also talk about other things, gtfover it. Also, Metal Gear was 2D. Metal Gear Solid was 3D. That was why the name changed).

After playing Metal Gear Solid 4 (well...almost, just started Old Sun) I wondered, "Do they really intend to finish such a valuable series just like that?". I mean, with 6 base games (MG1, MG2, MGS1/2/3/4) plus all the cheap ripoffs like Metal Gear Acid, are they just gonna finish it like that?

There are no more Snakes, most of the main characters are dead, most of the cliffhangers have been sorted... What's left? Nothing, except maybe a new storyline.
(Remember, I've not yet finished it. Some of my ideas may simply be wrong because of it.)

Then I figured, "What of it?". Characters can be replaced. OK, people may not LIKE it, but, we had Raiden in MGS2. There are still parts made up that can be used, plus more. The patriots, nanomachines, the system, and just the writer's general genius.

The few areas Metal Gear games have not explored is online (MGS3 failed, MGS4 is their first real attempt), co-op, unit command, individual storylines, the abiltiy for players to input ideas for game updates, vehicle use, and other things I probably can't think of right now.

So, how could all these things be combined into one game?

Metal Gear Solid: World Corps (concept name =p). Simply an MGS permaworld, and therefore an MMORPG. Now, before you go "Oh god, levels, grind, craft, PvP, bots, etc", it would simply be MGS but in a permaworld. Still sneaky sneaky, still CQC, etc. The main difference is, you simply play a mercenary/soldier.

Let me explain it slowly...

The world would be blank, carrying on from MGS4. The system would be highly damaged, if not out-of-order. The patriots would be gone/dormant. Key game locations, such as Alaska, South Africa, The Middle-East, they would all be redesigned and reinvented. For instance, there could still be NPC wars round the globe, maybe even a vague few rogue metal gear.

A storyline would be introduced. What it was, would depend on the writers, of course. You would play the storyline as a singleplayer (or, maybe in a group/squad/corp). During the first few single player missions, you decide your play style (stealth, combat, commander, etc). After a few missions, the online multiplayer world opens up.

At this point, the game really starts. The single player storyline continues the same, but you also can involve yourself into a multiplayer storyline. This one focuses more on mercenary work and such.

I'll mention it now before I forget, there are no levels. Skill determines a players equipment, skill and equipment determines the best player. There would, therefore, be no grind. NPCs would be the same as in the current games. PvP would be commitable anywhere. Therefore, it is up to the players to decide whether they sneak past other players, fight them, take them captive or just run past em.

Equipment could be bought from players mainly, some NPCs, and from looting and then using a gun launderer. There would be all sorts of equipment, ranging from items like octocamo and weaponry, to storyline items like Snake's bandana and the stealth technology.

There would be other paths than frontline fighters that could be followed also. Players would need transport round the different locations, so ship captains and pilots would be needed. There could be hackers/programmers like Otacon, or just general scientists, who assist development of new technology in the game server (remembred that all the technology was wiped out). You could also get Gun Launderers (Drebin) or Engineers (they build shit, from mere jeeps, to metal gear REX, to Arsenal).

Eventually, players can join corps; Simply groups of players united and fighting together (like PMC, Rebels, etc). They can control key locations that offer certain bonuses. For instance, controlling Shadow Moses stops other players access to Metal Gear information (specifically REX). However, tahts not to say other players wont infiltrate and get the info, nor will other corps fight over the land.

another idea I thought was technology. Maybe scientists could use relics from the days of the Patriots to recreate things, like nanomachines and ID chips. Weapon crafters/launderers could then use ID chips to control the people they sell them to, or Scientists could control people with nanomachines if the right technology was discovered.

Yeah... just an idea. Back to MGS4 for me...
