This is my first post as well Err, my creature suddenly doesn't look so good next to some of these things lol, but just for the sake of it...


A young male finds an easy meal when he comes across an old resting boar. (Yeah alright, I didn't have enough imagination to come up with my own prey item, so And btw, this is my creature's tribal phase.)

Nomenclature

Common Name: Nexmorsus (Plural: Nexmorsi)
Nickname: Nex (Plural: Nex)
Scientific name: Mirus nexmorsus

Colouration

Most males are dark blue or aqua in colour while females are normally a brighter turqoise. Indigo variations are extremely rare and tend to appear in males. Many times their skin turns darker or even black when aggitated.

Soulder Height: 5-6 ft.
Length: 10-15 ft.
Weight: 750-900 lbs

Sensing

Visual: incredibly acute; able to detect both infrared and visual light
Auditory: quite acute, hearing frequency range of 5 to 35,000 Hz
Tactile: low sensory nerve endings; very high pain threshold
Olfactory: lacking; uses gland in the throat to detect air particles
Taste: quite acute; 50,000 taste buds on tongue
Other: Can detect heat waves from other creatures from nerve endings lining its jaw

Environment

As semi-amphibious beings, Nex perfer to live in rainy biomes including tropical rainforests and swamps.

Verbal Communication

Nex use a red pouch-like dulap under their jaw for everyday communication. With it, they are able to make complex bird-like cooing sounds or even loud chirps. However, when aggressive, the Nex may bare its teeth and growl at a very low frequency below human hearing.

Emotive Behavior

The personality of the Nex, as a species, is, like humans, largely dependent upon the individual. A social species, the vast majority are friendly and complacent to their own kind when properly respected and their emotional needs are met. Also like humans, they are able to feel love, hatred, and all in between towards other individuals or groups. In addition, most every member of the species is also completely respectful to other species which are no harm to them, not including induvidual prey items that is. However, to their aggresors, the Nex can be incredibly violent and attack without any warning whatsoever. If one so much as looks at a Nex “incorrectly” they have a slim change of surviving with minor injuries, let alone living.

Violent Behavior

Whether hunting or battling over a territory or a mate, bloodshed is a matter taken very seriously by the Nex species. Overall, they are particularly adept when it comes to physical violence, as their name suggests, which is Latin for "violent death". However, this does not necessarily mean these creatures are a bloodthirsty species. In fact, they prefer to make peace with their enemies and leave war as a last resort tactic.

Solitary Hunting
Younger Nex usually look for old or wounded prey much less their own size when hunting solo. Larger males and females, however, choose to combat healthier prey head-on to get a fresher meal.

Tribal Hunting
A hunting clan of Nex, usually consisting of 4-7 induviduals, choose the largest creature to take down in order to feed their tribe. They most often hunt in a sheltered enviornment, such as a jungle, so they could leap out at once and take their prey down by surprise. This is when Nex become extrordinarily violent, attempting to bring down the animal ASAP by biting and stabbing it repeatedly in the neck or head area. Their goal is to bleed their prey to death.
