Looking forward to seeing you creatures in Spore
From the quality and imagination of the creatures seen in this thread I am looking forward to seeing them in Spore. I am amazed the the creativity and skill demonstrated by all of these drawings and descriptions. Fantastic work! I haven't picked up a pen in years, very little time to draw these days. Ideas for Spore creatures are always floating around in the space between my ears so I am going out on a limb and including one here.
This ugly fellow is a Cthathalican, a type of ambush predator. The body is covered in heavy chitin that resembles rocky spars. Cthathalicans are very slow to move, relying on ambush feeding to acquire prey. Using their body type and very slow metabolism, Cthathalicans can remain stationary for extended periods of time. Their mouths are located in a small dip in their chitin, resembling a nice resting spot for birds and small animals. The three limbs surrounding the mouth resemble dead branches, doubling as exterior food manipulators and lures for birds. The growths on the "shoulders" of a Cthathalican are used as "feelers" similar to the whiskers of a cat and act as the primary sensing organ for the creature. When these are disturbed the Cthathalican attempts to latch onto the object doing the disturbing and draw it into it's mouth.
Hope you like it, as I said I haven't drawn in years and this was done in my office at work so not the best of quality (Although my co-workers now think I am disturbed)
