Exactly my thought! 
Could I make a creature two vertebrae tall and have him be as fat as an elephant? Does the creature just need to fit within a certain space (like your accordion idea) or is there a "length" limit in addition to a "size" limit? They always talk about how much we can do, but I'm very curious to know the creator's limits.
