GDC 60 Minute Video Review - Tribal & UFO
"A different tribal city."
At 35:17 he notes that the gameplay doesn't just stop at your own city. He scrolls across the map and focuses on another city. Based on the attributes of the city, there's a different culture amongst the creatures even though the creatures themselves of the different city(s) are the same creatures. So while you're creating your own creature and focusing on controlling all aspects of the creature, the computer is taking your same creature (which is logical because the stages of creatures you made previously will lay more than one egg) and is making its own decisions which creates for different structures of cities, cultures and behaviors.
So there are different tribes of your creature, you only control your own tribe while the computer controls other tribes. Depending on the other tribes, you can have either a good or bad relationship. You can trade and do other things at a friendly level, or act on a defensive or offensive with other tribes by having raids or wars. He shows off a vehicle editor in which you can control the types of vehicles you buy, which can be land based or air based. He doesn't focus much on the vehicle editor at this point in the game but I assume you can morph and control nearly every aspect of the vehicle, much as you can with the creature and building editors.
At 37:43 he pulls away from the land and it shows the entire planet in which you can see the other cities / civilizations. He also mentions at this point in the game when there are other cities, the game enters the civilization stage. The view of the planet is very "exaggerated" when you pull back, this is to give the player ease of use so they can visually see each city in a scaled up proportion to the planet, but as you zoom back in to a specific area of the planet like on a city, the proportions are scaled back down to normal levels. Then he sums up by saying you basically conquer your world (or planet) city by city until you've pretty much owned this entire world, and built it.
At 39:00 he switches from the computer back to the podium again in which he talks about the pollination of objects derived from all the players. When you buy something from another player, it suggests to the central database a positive feedback for that particular item. So they are continually refining the objects available based on feedback. He then continues on how he has built the game from the best core features of other games, but not make it some meticulous structured gameplay. He predicts that 40% of the gameplay will come aesthetically, spending time building a creative world but also offer a lot of open ended functionality.
A few minutes later he goes back to the computer and zooms into his city in which he touches back to the vehicle editor. He reveals that you can indeed purchase and modify water, air, and land vehicles and eventually over time space traveling vehicles (UFO's). The UFO as he mentions becomes the swiss-army knife, a representation of all the tools and abilities in the game. He demonstrates with the UFO that it's somewhat of a content creation tool, and he hovers over previous enemies and actually abducts a few with an abduction beam. In a sense you can go around the world sucking up content.

I think the most coolest stage would be the creature stage right next to the space stage because I like the idea of having to survive as a single creature by hunting your prey, eating plants and avoiding predators all at once, I think I might stay in this stage for quite a while at least until I played through 50 generations.

um to the question of your ufo well no ones played it yet..so know one knows my guess is like his 0 hours however it could be an actual 3-7 days if you dont play a lot or just arnt a good gamer n offense, about the phases i wanna be the first person tovisit 10k star systems which will require some time lol so space phase FTW, ad as for the release date it wont be out till my grand kids pay there visits to wills grave because even though he is dead the sims is still a great game to play
