The Creature and Building Editor
At 21:25 he shows off the amazing flexibility of the editor by displaying creatures he premade. He shows off "Buttface", a creature which has an assortment of attached legs. Then another one as he refers to "Tweety Bird" with a huge head and short stubby legs. He shows off a few other creatures and mentions that they all behave using the same code based on what your prior creatures have behaved. He also mentions that there's a texture editor but he can't currently show it as I assume it hasn't been fully developed.
At 23:26 he concludes that portion of the preview by hopping off the computer and back to the podium. He continues on speaking about why he thought it'd be a great idea to sort of "burn" the tools inside the game rather than having to go to an external website and download characters or objects that he wants to use. Which I personally think is great logic! At 26:20 he says, "Our lead artist kind of coined this phrase, 'Artist in a Box', ya know we're looking at all the things an artist would have to do to create content in a game and figure out how we can possibly automate all of these things, and then give a very simple set of tools to the player." In other words, you're acting as a designer or creator in a game, which is also a multiplayer game (awesome!).
At 27:49 he says, "The computer is really a creative amplification of the player's efforts." He continues by saying that all of the things you can do in the editor for example correlate to a relatively small amount of data storage, which means you can store a huge number of creatures, elements, worlds etc.. on a small database. So therefore if you aren't connected to the internet, you can play in a single player based world with 10's of thousands of those elements on the disc. He mentions that the world that you build is somewhat of a pollination idea while as you play, everything around you is being built from other players. So in a sense, there's an entire universe that has solar systems which has its own planets - based on what type of character you build starting at the cellular level, you will be placed in a world which is conducive to your character, and it's a huge multiplayer universe.
2 more minutes later he goes back to the creature editor in which he points out another important aspect of the editor. As you progress through the world, you can kind of "save up" to invest in a smarter better brain for your character. A lot of times if you're getting beat up or you want to run faster you might add more defense mechanisms, but as somewhat of a "college savings account" overtime you will want your player to become smarter. The brain editing portion of the editor offers your creature different brains based on what you've already invested within it. Once you reach the highest level of brain, your creature moves onto the next phase.
At 30:27 he says, "The game actually mutates to kind of a first person eater, to an RTS where you're controlling a whole herd of these guys." At this stage you can buy your creatures tools like weapons, a camp fire etc.. Depending on how you've "played" or built your creature, they can become either very "emotional or logical" at this level of the game. You also can upgrade their enclosure (or hut) which allows you to buy them a greater variety of things, and eventually you will reach the next stage.
The next stage is the "City" stage. You can make buildings and roads and various other things. You're basically the author of this "little world." You can choose to populate your city by buying different structures or modifying them, and the selection of what you can purchase is not only derived through your own gameplay, but also other players. So you can buy an item from what a different player has generated, and implement it within your own world and your creatures will adapt and use it. At 33:51 he shows for the first time the
building editor, which allows you to edit different aspects of each building within your city. Like the creature editor, you can physically morph all physical attributes of the building you choose to modify.1. leon k - Aug 03, 2008 03:43 PM

I hope there is some short of content filtering system so that if someone make a very disusting and perverted creature that others will find very offensive, it will not be sent to everyones computer and it will be deleted in the data base because I want to be able to visit any planet in the galaxy and be able to see very cool or if nonetheless weird creatures without worrying about running into anything that will ruin the feel of the game and make it uncomfortable to play like a preveusly mentioned penis monster, Guys grow up!
